A handbag that doesn't hurt your back: our criteria
A handbag is carried for hours every day. If poorly designed or overloaded, it eventually weighs on your shoulder and back. Here are the points to check before choosing one.
Weight when full
Chiropractic recommendations advise against carrying a bag that exceeds 10% of your body weight. A bag that is already heavy when empty leaves little room for maneuver: look at the material, the metal finishes, and the structure.
How it's carried
A shoulder strap, when well-placed, keeps the bag close to the body. Long crossbody straps cause the bag to swing against the hip and unbalance your gait.
The opening
We open our bags dozens of times a day. A magnetic closure can be opened with one hand, without catching your fingers like a zipper.
The shape
An elongated shape distributes items flat and allows you to find them without rummaging, rather than piling them at the bottom of a deep bag.
What we have done at Vôtres
Our elongated Magnetic bag applies these principles: a 36 cm baguette bag with a single diagonal strap, closed by magnets, designed to keep its weight when full below the 10% body weight threshold. It is handcrafted in Naples from LWG-certified leather (€460). For a more compact version, discover the Magnetic Édition Première.
